Money Issues

A Many Splintered Thing out of money

What kind of fuckery is this? The producers of a new movie staring a bunch of people who have millions of dollars are now asking for fans to donate $50, 000 to make their movie. Seriously.

A Many Splintered Thing, which is proclaimed to be the ‘anti-romantic comedy,’ will be staring Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza, Michelle Monaghan, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Topher Grace and Luke Wilson, all people which are considered rich by any accounts, is asking fans to be extremely generous with donations to make the movie a reality.

Apparently filmmakers need to raise the $50, 000 by the 26th of next month in order to keep the movie alive, and donations are being collected up to $10,000 per person. Because it’s clearly the logical choice to donate money to make a movie instead of donating it to a helping cause.

Regardless, the movie makers are promising perks for donations, and the more you donate, the better the perk.

shakira pregnant baby bump 2012

Money and babies and boyfriends, oh my! It looks like every day this week we’re hearing new news about Shakira, which is a little odd considering we’ve heard nearly nothing about her in the past two years.

But let’s start with the money news, shall we?

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Shakira is going to be ranking a whopping $12 million pay check for her time on season 4 of the voice, where she’ll be one of two new judges alongside Usher who are replacing Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. Pretty surprising for a first-time not-that-famous judge! Considering the iconic Mariah Carey is only getting $6 million more than that for her time at Idol and Usher is reportedly Usher has signed his contract for only $7 million, we’re a little shocked that The Voice is dishing out so much for the dancer.

Now for the other news: Read more…

Christina-Aguilera-Cee-Lo-Green-leaving-the-voice

News dropped yesterday that both Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are planning on departing from the show after this season wraps, but with a surprising steady number of viewers for the first handful of episodes this month, will NBC be opening their wallets to try and keep the vocal and production powerhouses on board?

Thanks to ratings from The Voice, NBC took the top spot among networks in the coveted 18-49-year-old demographic, despite the fact that CBS was on top of total viewers. With a 4.5 in adult ratings, the show was up 13% from last Tuesday’s 4.0 scoring.

What’s that mean for the judges, exactly? According to sources connected with the show, it means a whole lot of begging and pleading from producers. The insiders are saying that NBC is so pleased with the current rating increase that they’ve proposed that the starts re-open their contract negotiations, promising more money and better working hours if they’ll stay on for season 4.

BUT, things aren’t all roses for all the judges: Since Adam and Blake have already signed their contracts for season four, Christina and Cee Lo could be left with a major pay increase while their salary stays the same.

So what do you think– Will Christina and Cee Lo be back for four?

Harry Styles Ferrari

One Direction, better known to you as ‘that band I turn off every time they come on the radio,’ is the biggest thing in boy bands since the Jonas Brothers came on the scene in 2007. And despite the fact that the new fab five have only been in the spotlight for a little over a year, they’re already making money… A crazy insane huge amount of money.

Harry Styles, the ‘cute one’ from the band, was spotted in Beverly Hills yesterday cruising around in his brand new car. But it’s not just any car, it’s a brand new, 2013 $200,000 Ferrari California.

The band is currently  #1 in the UK and, in more appealing news, is getting sued by an American band also called One Direction who claimed to have the name first.

We’ll only include the one picture so your shade of green jealousy doesn’t get too dark.

lena-dunham-hot

While watching HBO’s breakout comedy Girls, it’s hard not to picture Hannah Horvath as a TV version of yourself. A 20-something who doesn’t know what she’s doing with her work life or her love life or her family life or her life in general? Sounds pretty familiar to us. But in the real world Hanna, AKA Lena Dunham, is anything but the awkward broke girl she portrays on the show.

And by ‘anything but broke’, we mean ‘girlfriend makes bank’.

The 25-year-old actress just dropped half a million for her own top floor apartment in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, and it’s much nicer than Hannah’s pad.

Check out the actresses new place below! Read more…

The-Girl-with-the-Dragon-Tattoo-sequel-cancelled

Sorry bookworms, but it looks like you may not get to see the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo after all!

Rumors are starting to spread that the role in which gained Rooney Mara her first Oscar nomination could be shelved because the films simply didn’t make enough cash.

Sources have revealed that David Fincer’s movie adaptation of the book cost nearly $100 million to make and only brought in $231 mil worldwide. And that may sound like a lot, but once you account for marketing, actor salaries and other expenses that weren’t accounted for in the budget, the movie ended up losing 10% of its original investment.  Read more…

Derpy Mark Z

Mark Zuckerberg, the innovator behind the world’s largest website dedicated to stalking your ex-girlfriend and getting updates on how many of your high school friends are knocked up, is now only worth $14.7 billion instead of $20 billion. Facebook stock shares are down by a percentage that people are saying is a lot so that’s really sad for him.

Although fans are rallying to raise funds for him and his budding family to cope during these trying times, the Zuck and his new bride have nonetheless taken the thrifty route while honeymooning in Italy.

We have heartbreaking footage of him being lost at an ATM. And because he bought his wife diamond earrings, he couldn’t leave a tip at the restaurant where they ate dinner. After viewing the photos (which are painful and traumatic in nature), please click the “Donate Now” button and do your part to restore this poor man’s pride and ensure another unnecessary Facebook update.

Jessica-Simpson-Pregnant

If that name doesn’t mean much to you then you probably aren’t much of a fan of celebrity babies. After waiting through nearly a decade of pregnancy, Jessica Simpson finally popped out Maxwell Drew Johnston and now has made some serious bank on the first photos of her. But how much is she making?

People magazine ponied up $800,000 for the pictures, which is in addition to the 3 million (!!!) that Simpson will be making with a new Weight Watchers deal. Talk about a profitable baby!

While this figure is impressive, it’s still a lot lower than stars like Jennifer Lopez and Anjelina Jolie have made off the first pics of their newborns.

What do you think? Will you be picking up a copy of People to see Maxwell?

Miley Cyrus LOL FAIL

Everyone had a feeling that Miley Cyrus‘ latest film LOL wasn’t going to be the summer blockbuster of 2012, but we’re sure no one was expecting the flop to be this bad.

Despite the fact that Miley alone was paid a rumored $3.2 million to star in the film, it only managed to bring in $46, 500 this past weekend. Trust us, you read that right.

Cyrus’ last big screen film, The Last Song, has poor reviews, but it still managed to rake in $63 million in America.  Does this mean that Mile’s Hannah Montana fame has officially worn off? Do we even care to see her in anything other than Disney double-personality sitcoms?

So what does Miley think of her epic fail? Apparently girlfriend just doesn’t care! Last night the starlette turned to Twitter to let her fans know that her downfall isn’t going to phase her:

“Thank u so much for everyone who went to see LOL. It is a film I loved making and I am proud of…. That’s really all that matters to me. ❤”

Well girl, think of it this way– Even if your movie didn’t do well, you still get to go home to this every night!!

Five Year Engagement Bombs

Despite having two of the biggest stars in Hollywood as the movie leads and being promoted by a $8 million dollar advertisement campaign in North America alone, the supposed-to-be blockbuster comedy of the summer, Five Year Engagement, bombed this weekend at the box office.

The movie, staring Emily Blunt and Jason Segel, was predicted to open #1 this weekend with minimal competition, but those expectations were shattered when not only did it not take the top spot, but it barely made it into the top 5.

The film ended up debuting this weekend at #5,  with a mere $11,156,800. Now that number may look big, but once you consider that it covers less than four of the actors salaries for the film, it’s pretty safe to call it a bomb!

So what was the #1 movie of the weekend?
