Can’t say we’ve seen Molly, but when it comes to Madonna, I think we’ve seen it all!

Our Lady Madge took the stage in Miami this past Saturday night, pre-album release, to present Aviccii at the Ultra Music Festival, and asked the cheering audience, “How many people in this crowd have seen molly?”

For those of us who are less drug-savvy, “molly” as a slang term for MDMA, or the chemical used in ecstasy. The drug has long been associated with electronic dance music and the patrons of the genre’s concerts. And although the crowd roared in response to Madonna’s attempt to bond, some of the artists are in an uproar.

Deadmau5, an iconic figure on the EDM scene took to both Twitter and his blog today to express his anger at Miss Madge’s promotion of the drug.

“HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???” such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra,” he posted on Facebook.

Artists like Deadmau5 have been painstakingly fighting to shake the negative association of the drug to their music, but according to the EDM producer, Madonna simply threw out what she thought would make her “hip and trendy”, in an attempt to appear relevant.

Okay, so there’s no denying that Madge was advocating a hallucinatory drug in order to promote her new album (entitled MDNA!), but what else is new? She does it simply to piss you off and notice her, and it’s worked since ’83, why would she go demure on us now?

Her album will speak for itself, and having already received lukewarm responses from critics, we’re thinking Deadmau5 might be right – her only contribution to EDM is hype and “hipsterspeak”.

Listened to the album yet? What do YOU think? Is Madge a has-been looking for a way in with the in-crowd, or is she still the reigning Queen of Pop?
