The tumultuous and fascinating off-and-on relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton will become the focus of a new Lifetime biopic written by Christopher Monger – and the tumultuous, fascinating, on-and-off again Lindsay Lohan will star as Liz.

Lindsay, who has also taken to primetime’s Glee to reboot her career, was photographed for Interview magazine to resemble Liz Taylor in 2006, and today it was officially announced by Rob Sharenow, the Excecutive Vice President of Programming at Lifetime, that she will play the iconic movie star.

Regarding the announcement, Lindsay obviously said, “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

Back in the day, we were all super obsessed with Liz and Dick. We sat entranced, watching them fall in love on the set of Cleopatra, divorce their respective spouses, marry each other, divorce each other, remarry each other, then divorce again. The back and forth is so reminiscent of our love for Lindsay, she is quite possibly the only person suited so perfectly to the role. And Rob from Lifetime agrees.

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor, she is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

Lindsay hasn’t exactly been staying out of trouble lately, and with the film to begin shooting this June, do you think she’ll be able to do the role justice?
