Our prayers have finally been answered: MTV has decided to pull the plug on the defunct, albeit much-watched reality show Jersey Shore after the upcoming sixth and final season.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY just recently posted the following statement about the cancellation:

The sixth and final edition of the show recently wrapped production and will debut Thursday, Oct. 4, with the crew back in Seaside Heights for one last party. The network is also airing a retrospective Jersey Shore special titled “Gym, Tan, Look Back” that will include a first look at the final season. The special will air before the Video Music Awards on Thursday, Sept. 6. The Shore cast will make a live appearance on the red carpet during the VMAs pre-show, as well.

Although there are people out there that are probably very disappointed about Jersey Shore, no one can deny how boring the gang has turned after the last few seasons and with Snooki just popping out a little meatball of her own, it’s about time the gang start growing up and for Mike to finally come out of the closet.

At least we have one more season with the gang before saying good-bye to Jersey Shore!
