“She was talking to Tom on the phone up until last week saying, ‘I love you,’ ” a source tells PEOPLE of the actress.

“Her inner circle has been planning this and switching out cell phones since she was in China [in mid-June],” adds the source. “When new cell phones arrived, then nobody could reach her. Her old best friends from last week don’t have her new number, no email. She’s unreachable.”

 

Holmes, 33, also rented her new apartment in New York City in early June. “[Tom] knew that she moved there, but [he thought it was] for different reasons,” says the source.

 

“She said she moved there to drive into the underground garage. There are fewer paparazzi and it’s less intrusive for her,” says the source. “It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that’s why she was able to say she’s moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him.”

Now we all know how Katie Holmes planned on divorcing Tom Cruise and blindsiding him, but let’s list the reasons why!

1. The Protection of Suri 

We all know that Tom is an avid Scientologist, but Katie couldn’t bear seeing her daughter being pulled into the “CULT.”  It was recently revealed that Tom Cruise wanted to have Suri interrogated through shock therapy.  It should also be noted that Tom Cruise’s best man David Miscavige’s (also the leader of the church of Scientology) wife has been MISSING since 2006.  Katie is aware that Scientology is a dangerous cult and she needed to flee with her daughter before it was too late.

2. She wants her career back!!

Tom has definitely shown the world that Katie Holmes is a trophy wife and nothing more.  Although Katie has done amazing work in The Romantics and The Extra Man, it has gone unnoticed because of Tom Cruise’s control over her and the projects that she picks. No one around her can call her Katie (he makes everyone call her “Kate.) and he even forbid her from doing a Dawson’s Creek reunion movie!  She wanted to leave him without any warning so she can pull a Nicole Kidman and turn her career around.

3. It’s A Sham Marriage And Everyone Knows It

The whole world knows that this marriage was a gigantic publicity stunt for Tom Cruise. Unfortunately, Katie was the only one who believed it was more considering Tom was her childhood crush. Over the years, with all the gay rumors surrounding Tom Cruise and the pics of how miserable Katie has looked walking down the street, (even going gray!) she knew it was about time to end this charade.
